The Guardian’s New Band Of The Day 2010 playlist

Posted by Stewart Heys on January 1, 2011

Am having one or two delays with compiling my own list of 2010′s musical highlights, so throwing someone else’s up seems like the perfect interim solution.

Some great stuff in here, lots of dreamy shoegaze vocals and drifting sounds which seems perfect for the hot summer weather we are having at the moment.

Highlights on first listen would include How to Dress Well, Toro Y Moi, Perfume Genius and some quality dubstep from Girl Unit. Well worth an hour or two of your time.

I wish the music industry was always like this (email from Asthmatic Kitty)

Posted by Stewart Heys on September 21, 2010

I received this email from Asthmatic Kitty records today. Asthmatic Kitty is an independent record label run by Sufjan Stevens that got hold of my email address because I bought his recent EP All Delighted People.

I am re-posting the entire email because it presents an insight in to the workings of a small record label in an effective way (and as such, is a fantastic eDM).

It will be interesting to see if this generates as much interest and debate about the future of music distribution as Radiohead, Trent Reznor/ Nine Inch Nails and Saul Williams have in recent years….
